Is the Great Regret rekindling the Great Resignation?

With surveys showing 80% of post-pandemic job switchers unhappy with their decision, new study shows that nearly one-third of America’s workforce is now looking for a new job.

(Moscow, Idaho) – Nearly one-third of the American workforce is looking for a new opportunity in 2023, according to a new study by CompTia. This comes on the heels of the survey by Paychex that shows that 80% of those who switched jobs during the post-pandemic “Great Resignation” are remorseful of their decision.

“There’s a huge amount of discontent out there,” said RedBalloon CEO Andrew Crapuchettes. “The Great Resignation followed by the Great Regret could now rekindle another wave of resignations. All while inflation continues to eat away at real wages and companies struggle to create meaningful and fulfilling workplace culture that provides long-term value to their employees.”

“Think about the rollercoaster of pain the American worker has ridden these past few years,” continued Crapuchettes. “We’ve had lockdowns followed by remote work, mandatory vaccines, a forced return-to-office march, with masks required, record inflation, wages that aren’t keeping up, and now a growing wave of controversial DEI policies dividing the workplace. It’s no wonder the discontent meter is redlining. These past few years have produceda very transitory workforce grappling for any bits of real meaning in their careers.”

“At RedBalloon, jobseekers tell us every day they are just looking for a company that provides a stable career path, free from all the uncertainties and contentiousness,” Crapuchettes added. “If companies want to beat this labor shortage, they are going to have to foster workspaces that the majority of employees want to be in.”
